Peter Drake

Vice-President, Retirement & Economic Research

Fidelity Investments Canada

Peter Drake is Vice President, Retirement & Economic Research for Fidelity Investments Canada.

Peter leads the research into retirement and related economic issues and acts as   spokesperson for Fidelity on retirement related topics such as; the effects of demographic changes and economic trends on retirement, retirement readiness, and the issues involved in living and working in retirement.

Peter Drake is widely known and respected as an economist.  For over 35 years he worked with the economics department of the TD Bank Financial Group, including 11 years as a Vice President of the Bank and Deputy Chief Economist. More recently, he has acted as a consultant with the TD Bank Financial group, giving presentations to its clients, and as the economist for the Burns-Godard TD Waterhouse Private Investment Advice Advisory Team.

A major project for Peter was his analysis of the evolution of the Canada Pension Plan, in particular the significant changes to its funding model designed to ensure the sustainability of the plan. He has also studied Canada's demographic shift and its many important economic implications, especially for Canadian baby boomers approaching retirement.

Mr. Drake has conducted research and written articles on a wide range of economic and public policy issues -- work that has led to appearances before both federal and provincial government committees. He is frequently interviewed by the media and speaks about economic conditions to groups across North America.

Mr. Drake has taught economics at George Brown College in Toronto and has lectured on environmental economics at the University of Toronto. He is a member of the Advisory Committee on Financial Services Education at George Brown College and is a Director of the Toronto Association for Business and Economics. A native of Toronto, he received a B.A. from the University of Toronto and an M.A. in economics from Queen’s University. He has also taken advanced training in Economics at Carnegie Mellon University.
