Alexis Abramson

Vice President of Research, “Lifestyle Gerontologist”

Retirement Living TV

As vice president of research at Retirement Living TV (RLTV), Alexis Abramson , Ph.D., produces original research for the network including polls and perception audits, supports the network’s sponsors in market research on aging, and oversees the network’s accuracy and accountability in its programs. As the “Lifestyle Gerontologist” for Retirement Living TV, Abramson is often cited as America’s leading champion for the dignity and independence of those 55 +.

In addition to her duties at RLTV, Dr. Alexis is an inspiring speaker, corporate consultant, successful author and award-winning entrepreneur. Her message of respect for elders, and solutions for barrier-free independent living in later years, have been featured in many national publications including TIME, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur and People. She has been a regular on-air expert gerontologist for NBC’s Today show and Weekend Today since 1997.

Dr. Alexis has often been a keynote speaker at numerous conferences, bringing awareness of senior issues to corporations, consumers, government agencies and nonprofit groups. As an industry consultant, she helps make products and services senior-friendly, and employees more sensitive to the needs of mature Americans. She has appeared on behalf of older Americans before such organizations as AARP, the Arthritis Foundation, Duracell and Century 21, among many others.

Dr. Alexis is also the author of two successful books -- The Caregivers Survival Handbook, a guide to help caregivers manage the responsibilities of caring for others and for themselves, and a self-help reference book, Home Safety for Seniors.

As founder, chairperson and CEO of a major retail venture, Dr. Alexis led the way in identifying and marketing unique products and services for seniors. In 1995, the company’s catalog went online, offering specialty products targeted at seniors.  This endeavor garnered her the Working Woman magazine General Entrepreneurial Excellence Award plus the Atlanta Small Business of the Year Award, a 40-Under-40 Award and the prestigious American Society of Aging Outstanding Small Business Award.

Dr. Abramson, an active member in the Gerontology Society of America and the Aging Society of America, holds both master’s and doctoral degrees in gerontology from the University of Southern California, one of the world’s premiere schools of gerontology.
